The resource shows a progression towards reading standard notation and is a fun and engaging way for children to learn how to read a series of rhythm patterns starting through shapes and playing using body percussion which leads on to using drumsticks for chair drumming activities.

This Music Resource Bundle includes: a 12 page Teaching Plan and PPT Resource.

As a guide, this resource, delivered as part of a weekly lesson (20-25 mins) and followed up with 2 x 10/15 mins during the week, could take 6 – 8 weeks to be ready for a performance.

  2. This Teaching Plan/Guide has very detailed steps in how to teach the rhythm patterns through Body Percussion and how to teach the Chair Drumming (or table drumming)
  3. The track used for a performance of this activity which has been recorded as a ‘Play Along’ is the well known song from Encanto ‘We Don’t Talk about Bruno’.
  4. There are links in the Teaching Guide to video demonstrations of the Body Percussion actions and of the Chair Drumming activity.
  5. The ‘Play Along’ video will help support learners in playing and following the rhythm patterns as each beat is highlighted.
