Description
Chair Drumming Music Resource Bundle: Activities 1 & 2
This resource bundle comprises two progressive activities designed to introduce children to reading music through shapes and standard notation. These engaging resources focus on Body Percussion and transition to using longer claves, such as the A-Star AP4102BLPK Wooden Blue Claves (14 cm), which are available online and come in a pack of 10 pairs. These handheld rhythm sticks are ideal for children aged 4 and 5 years, along with drumsticks for Chair (or table) Drumming activities. For drumsticks, consider the Suwimut 12 Pairs 7A Drum Sticks, featuring classic maple wood tips, perfect for beginners and students.
Bundle Includes:
- 2 10-Page Teaching Plan/Guides
- 2 PowerPoint Resources (in PDF format)
Overview: Each resource can be integrated into a weekly music lesson (20-25 minutes) and followed up with two 10-15 minute sessions during the week. The entire progression can take up to 6-8 weeks to prepare students for a performance in a class assembly or concert.
1. Teaching Plan: The Teaching Guide provides detailed steps for teaching ‘keeping a beat’ and playing simple rhythm patterns using shapes (square and circle). This leads to playing a series of rhythm patterns through Chair Drumming, accompanied by the lovely Scottish track “The Wee Man from Skye” from the CD Mist in the Glen (www.kodamusic.com). The activities include 2 Play Along video recordings, with a link in the Teaching Plan that supports learners in following the rhythm patterns as each beat is highlighted.
2. PowerPoint Resources in pdf format.
- Chair Drumming 1: Contains all the slides used in the Play Along, supporting learners in practicing the rhythm patterns.
- Chair Drumming 2: Introduces standard notation in the shapes, reinforcing learning and helping students transition from shapes to reading music.
This bundle is a fantastic resource for enhancing rhythm skills and musical literacy in your music programme!
This resource includes my original content and I have permission from Keith Dickson of https://www.kodamusic.com/ to use his music ‘The Wee Man from Skye’ in the Play Along Video.
