Hi, I’m new to blogging but I think this may be a good way of dropping ideas for singing warm ups, chants, creating, listening and things that I have found work for me using technology.
I love Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years and Middle Years https://www.nycos.co.uk/product-category/singing-games-rhymes/ If you don’t already use these books, please check them out. There are video demos on You Tube also.
I am always looking for ideas for fun chants and singing warm ups to add in to the mix.
If you are looking for a short warm up chant on keeping a beat: try this: ask your students to clap on the beat in the first line and stamp their feet (keeping a beat) on the second line and tapping on their heart on the words: ‘can you feel your heart beat‘
‘Clap your hands, keep in time, can you say this simple rhyme,
Keep the beat, with your feet, can you feel your heart beat!’
Today, I completed a Chair Drumming resource to the magical tune: ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite (most suitable for ages 9 +). I came across this super Electric Violin Cover on You Tube by Kimberly Hope.
The resource seemed to take ages to create – over 350 PPT slides to create the ‘Play Along’ ! This resource will be added to the website very soon. I just need to record a video demo of this activity and write up a detailed teaching plan.
Posting here a preview….. of the Play Along:
I have now finished the Demo and the Teaching Guide! Online soon!
Please see a preview of the DEMO!
So today, I have been looking at the Primary Music Curriculum Planning documents and making some small changes in the layout for Performing, Creating and Composing and Listening & Responding in Early Level. I remembered that I had started a timeline back in 2019 – a guide/suggestion as to when to introduce the different classroom instruments in Primary Music. I found the PPT slide and made a few small changes. Just thought this might be useful.
The Chair Drumming resource bundle for ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ is ready! It is a free download – please see resource page on www.primarymusicmaking.com. Resource bundle includes a link to a demonstration of the activity, link to the Play Along ( each beat is highlighted which will help support learners in following the rhythm patterns), the PPT slides to help support teaching the rhythm patterns and a detailed step, by step teaching plan/guide.
I started teaching the rhythm patterns from the first few slides of this activity yesterday with 2 x P6/7 classes. Delighted that all the students loved the music track and the Chair Drumming activity! This is going to be a fabulous instrumental performance at their Christmas concerts.
I have finally finished a Bucket Drumming resource for age 7+ . The Play Along is to the fabulous Christmas song ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ Shakin’ Stevens. Resource bundle includes a link to a demonstration of the activity, link to the Play Along ( each bar is highlighted which will help support learners in following the rhythm patterns), the PPT slides to help support teaching the variety of beat and rhythm patterns and a 17 page detailed step, by step teaching plan/guide! See resource page for free download on www.primarymusicmaking.com
